George Earl Fischer, USAF

We regret to report the passing of George Earl Fischer, age 86, of Marietta, Ga., passed away in his home on Feb. 8, 2024.

The son of the late Mildred (Burge) Fischer and George William Fischer, of Waukegan, Ill. George attended Waukegan Township High School where he played football and was a member of the ROTC. Following his graduation, he began his 43-year aviation career with Lockheed Martin, working as a machinist. In 1990, George and his wife Anita (Downs) Fischer moved to Marietta where he finished his Lockheed Martin career as a tool and dye planner.

A United States Air Force veteran and 22-year member of the American Legion-Post 29, in Marietta, George was also a life-long golfer and sport fisherman. He is survived by his wife Anita; his daughter Elizabeth Jung; his two sons, George C. Fischer (Helen Joyce) and Jerry Fischer (Gladys); his youngest daughter Julie McCoy (Chris); nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
