The Famous all-you-can-eat Breakfast by the SAL is Saturday, September 21st. Come by 8-11AM. The buffett is only $8. Take a plate home for $9.
The website, Eblast, and Newsletter team does our best to share all of our events with you. But the addition of a professional photographer to our team has taken our game to a new level.
Check out this short video of some of our activities in 2019.
Did you know that we offer a free breakfast for members who renew early?
Simply renew your membership before the end of September, and you’ll be an “Early Bird”. We’ll treat you to a free breakfast at the October SAL Buffet.
If you already renewed for 2019-2020, then check your Membership Card for a red Early Bird. If you didn’t get a stamp, see your membership director.
The Post is planning a trip to Murphy, NC to have an afternoon of fun, gambling, and fellowship. It is open to all post members. The trip will be Thursday September 19th – we will leave the post promptly at 9AM and depart from Murphy around 4:30 pm. This is not a legion sponsored event, but an event put together by Milton Dickson. We plan on having two vans that will hold 15 people each. The cost of the trip will be approximately $20 per person to cover gas, and insurance. No smoking on the buses, but we will make stops on the road. Each participant will be given $20 in slot machine credits to play on the machines. It will be based on first come, first served.
Contact Milton Dickson 678-429-9359 for reservations.
The SAL is holding its general meeting on Tuesday Aug. 27th at 6:30pm after the Queen of Hearts. We will be meeting upstairs in the small hall. This will be an important meeting to discuss potential activities, establish a budget and to discuss charitable giving. We are off to a good start for 2019 -2020. We were the largest post in the State last year, and we would like to continue this rise in membership by also becoming a better post in doing so.
Your Commander and E-Board need your support as we plan, implement activities and participate in legion activities. We need your input into these things- so please try to participate and attend our meetings.
To all members( including duel members and Jr. members) of the Squadron 29 of the American Legion – Marietta
Good morning! Do to the fact that the National Sons of the American Legion have raised our membership costs – we at Post 29 in Marietta must do the same. Effective immediately our dues for the year 2019-2020 will go from $20.00 to $25.00. This is the first increase in our dues in over 15 years. Our duel member and Jr. member costs will remain the same at $10.00 per member.
Sr. Vice Commander Randy Wright and Adjutant Tom Rieger have the new cards to handle renewal and new members. Please try to take advantage of the early bird special – a free breakfast in Oct. – so renew and sign up early to take advantage of this special offer.
Last year we had 72 new SAL members of Post 29 – Let’s all try to continue to recruit folks that qualify to be SAL members and who are interested in helping veterans and helping the entire American Legion Post 29 family become stronger, better and more viable in the community!
If you have questions about the increase in dues or any activities / issues with the SAL do not hesitate to give me a call. I look forward to being of service to each of you and please know that it is a honor for me to serve as your Commander.

Legion, SAL, Auxiliary, and ALR units have all completed their election process for the 2019-2020 year.
Installation of officers for all units will take place at a dinner and meeting at Post 29 on Saturday July 13th. Events will begin at 5PM.
The dinner is sold out. The social quarters will remain open for our members, with our regular activities. Following dinner, a few tables will be reserved in the SQ for guests of our installation.
Independence Day is just around the corner. Here’s a snippet of our events.
The post will participate in the parade through Marietta Square. Our float needs to be in position by 0830 on the morning of July 4th. Members may ride in our float, on a first come, first aboard basis. Please note it will be a long hot day on the float.
We also serve a meal to all current members and their families. The post will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, toppings, and drinks. Members who attend should bring their current ID card, and some side dish to share. Food service will begin around 1PM on July 4th.
The race committee for the 5th Annual Veterans Memorial 5K and Military Appreciation Celebration would like to thank the entire American Legion Post 29 family for helping host the most successful 5K and military appreciation celebration that we have ever had. We could not have been successful without the support of the entire American Legion Post 29 family.
I would like to thank Commander Walt Cusick and his e-board for the support and guidance that they provided. I really appreciate the efforts of the ALR members for their efforts at putting on a bike ride and providing motorcycles to lead our runners. The ladies auxiliary provided help at pre-pack, and pickup , registration and made a donation as well. The SAL made a wonderful donation to the race, and the SAL members really helped with the set-up and take down on race day. The American Legion members stepped up in huge way, by being volunteers; manning water stations, set up and take down, and clean-up; buying polo shirts; and being phantom runners. A special thank you to the Social Quarters staff for
their help in selling shirts, tickets and helping with the pick and pack. They are our secret weapon. Needless to say we appreciate the legion’s support of our wine tasting and the Banks and Shane concert.
Race day was a huge success with over 400 runners ( exact number still being finalized). The simulcast provided by the Army National Guard, their sponsorship and support was outstanding, – it was fun, entertaining, but also very inspirational. We cannot thank the Marietta Fire Dept. and the Marietta Police Dept. enough for providing an honor guard, a medical team and traffic control. The weather was great, and it was great to have legion members being our DJ and singing the National Anthem. The runners enjoyed to the day with many saying this is the best 5k of the year.
The Military Appreciation Celebration was awesome! From the ringing of the Bell on the Square to the POW-MIA ceremony to our speakers and the concert it was tremendous! A special thanks to Maj. Gen. Tom Carden for his remarks and to Cobb County Commission Chair and retired Marine Colonel Mike Boyce for his comments. The Georgia Symphony Orchestra was tremendous, and we appreciate them donating their time to be with us.
When you write an open letter, you sometimes leave someone out when you are trying to recap your appreciation for the help we have received. I hope this is not the case here. But the race committee truly appreciated the support from the entire legion family for your time, effort, monies, and participation in this years Veterans Memorial 5K and Military Appreciation.
The finances for the race and all of the money totals are still in the works, for we are waiting on some invoices in order to complete the accounting. I hope to have a final number by the June 6th general meeting.
In closing I would like to thank all of our sponsors who supported us again this year, for none of this would be possible without them! There are just too many to list here! Finally, Peggy Beascoehea and I would like to thank our committee members who worked very hard to help make this event successful! You guys and gals are the best!
Have a great day! Respectfully yours,
Race Committee Chairman
