Honorary Commanders Alumni Association is extending an invite to members of the American Legion Post 29 to join us for this FREE event on Monday, August 30.

When we hear slogans such as; “Aim-High, Fly-Fight-Win”, “Forged by the Sea”, “Army Strong”, and “The Few, The Proud, The Marines”, we often think of our young airmen, sailors and soldiers who enlist and take the oath right out of high school to train for battle and defend our nation. These are the men and women who make up the enlisted ranks of our Armed Forces.

There is another rank that we hear so little about and those are the men and women of the Armed Forces who make up our officer ranks. Those who have not only sworn to protect and defend but also are committed to looking after the mental, physical, spiritual and legal rights of all those who stand beside them. They make up the Medical Service Corps, the Judge Advocate General (JAG), and Chaplain Corps of our United States Military.

Please join us as we hear from a few who joined the ranks of the officer corps who will discuss their journey and why they chose the military to practice their professions.

Lieutenant Colonel Ortiz, USAF – Chaplain Ortiz is an Active Guard Reserve Wing Chaplain attached to the 94th Airlift Wing, Dobbins Air Reserve Base. He also serves as the 22nd Air Force NAF senior chaplain. He advises leadership on spiritual, ethical and morale issues within the Airlift Wing.
Brigadier General Bobby Christine, GAARNG – BG Christine is currently the Special Assistant to the National Guard Bureau’s General Counsel and the National Guard Advisor to the Judge Advocate General of the Army. On the civilian side he is the newly appointed District Attorney for the newly created Columbia County Judicial Circuit. He is the former United States Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.
Commander William Roy – CDR Roy commissioned as a Commander in the US Navy in April 2019. After completing the Officer Development School where he served as a Division Officer and Awarded the Thomas Eadie Award for highest academic and military training average, he served as General Medical Officer for the Marine Wing Support Squadron 471 Detachment Alpha until he reported November 2020 to Naval Aerospace Medicine Institute Pensacola, FL for Flight Surgery Training. CDR Roy is currently assigned to 4th Marine Air Wing Headquarters
PS1 Angela Hill – is a Personnel and Human Resource Specialist 1st Class who enlisted in the United States Navy after attending John McEachern High in 2009. PS1 Hill is currently a United States Navy Recruiter in Smyrna, GA and has a desire to attend Emory University School of Law in the future.

Independence Day

The Independence Day festivities are back! Come join Post 29 as we celebrate our Independence.

We will participate in the Marietta parade on Saturday July 3rd. To ride on our float, please coordinate with Commander Cusick, or Adjutant Al Rosenfield.

We will provide lunch for all Post 29 Legion members on Saturday July 3rd, from approximately 1-2PM, depending on when the parade ends. Current post 29 members are invited. Lunch will be served upstairs. This is not a pot luck, no outside food please.

Memorial Day 2021

We base many of our events around the festivities conducted in Marietta and Cobb County. There is no parade, nor a formal Ceremony in Marietta this year. We will not have a meal at the post. We will resume participation in the parade, and will serve a meal, on Independence Day weekend. Until then, here are the events we have this Memorial Day Weekend.

I would like to invite you and your Family to join us at the Mars Hill Cemetery on Sunday May 30th at 10am, to pay our respects at the gravesite of Sgt. Horace Orr, for a ceremony to Honor our Post namesake.

We have been doing this every year, with the exception of last year. I invite you to bring your kids , grandkids the whole Family and Friends! It will be a brief event, but certainly a meaningful one. Hope to see as many of you there as possible! Thanks in advance for your support, Sgt. Orr deserves it!

We will conduct our own brief Memorial Day Celebration on Monday May 31st.

It will take place at 11am in the upper parking lot. Please take a few minutes and come join us to Honor our Great County and all the Veterans who so willingly served for us!

Please jump in the car and bring your family and spend a few minutes to help us pay our respect on this awesome Day!

Thank you in advance for your support!

We know you love our Legion Home. This is the perfect way to give back to the post that gives you so much. Take pride in our post and our building, and help us give the place a good refresh.

Let’s Ruck 3.28.2021

What’s a Ruck? Just a walk. Many folks will add a backpack. Crazy folks fill the backpack with heavy weights.

Why Ruck? Because walking is good for us. Especially during a pandemic, when so many activities have been banned or cancelled, we can always walk.

When: Sunday March 28th. If there’s enough interest, we’ll ruck on the last Sunday of every month. We’ll depart at 11am, and we should return to the post by noon.

Where: Meet at Post 29. For our first ruck, we’ll simply walk to the National Cemetery, about a mile from the post. We’ll stroll through the cemetery and pay homage to those buried there, then we’ll hike back to the post. Easy. Even your kids and grandkids can do it. Weather permitting.

Wait, why again? Because we can. Because we want to always challenge ourselves. You will get in shape. Walking improves your physical and mental health. If we ruck as a group, we build camaraderie and community. Let’s enjoy the outdoors, and some sunshine.
