Howard is survived by his domestic partner, Shirley Deaton of Marietta, GA.; son, Howard Eugene Gestrin, Jr. and wife Bree of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Laurie Stafford of Arizona; sisters, Nancy Horner of Idaho, Susan Davis of Idaho; brother, Robert Gestrin and wife Verna of Idaho; grandchildren, Adam Gestrin, Jessica Gestrin, Taivyn Gestrin Dylan Svendsen, Sydney Svendson, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by Otto Howard Gestrin, Betty Tindle Gestrin and John Gestrin.
Howard was born on Wednesday, July 3, 1946, in Donnelly, ID to Otto & Betty Gestrin. He was raised on a working cattle ranch and spent his youth helping his family maintain the ranch. He met the love of his life Shirley Deaton, and they spent eleven wonderful years together. Howard worked for many years at Boeing Aerospace and then began working as a Chemical Engineer at Lockheed Martin for 30 years until his retirement. Howard was a long-standing member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #29 in Marietta, GA and enjoyed the camaraderie he found there. Howard had many hobbies over the years, from rebuilding antique radios, woodworking, boats, and antique cars. What he enjoyed most however, was traveling with Shirley, exploring different museums together, and just spending time with her. What truly made Howard happiest was making sure that Shirley was happy. Howard was always forthright with his thoughts, and you always knew where you stood with him. He was a good man who lived his best life. His presence will be forever missed.
