Commander’s Column

Happy New Year and welcome to 2022, hope everyone had a Safe and Blessed Holiday Season. We are starting off the New Year dealing with the latest COVID issues, as we have in the past, we will follow all State Issued Guidelines, always keeping in mind the safety of our Members. We will be reviewing all Post events on a case-by-case basis insuring it is safe to hold them.

We awarded out our Donations from our 7th Annual 5K Race, held last November. I am proud to say that we were able to give each of our Charities (Natl Guard Family Foundation, Shepherds Men and our own Service Officer) $40,000 this year.  Also, we honored Tom Bell, who was the Race Founder and Chairman for the last 7 years. Please thank him when you see him. The 5K Race over 7 years has raised $550,000 that has gone back into our Community! The new Race Chairman will be Ed Bruce and let’s all give him the support needed to keep this Event going.

We also had a very successful Toys for Tots drive this year, Thanks to Jim Devoto, who was the lead on this project. Again, this year we had a Santa Party for the Park School Special Ed Student, Thanks to Dick and Bernadette for being the Clause Family!

As we enter the New Year, we will start to finish wrapping up the second half of the Legion Year. As you should know by now, we have changed the Key Cards from Blue to Yellow. You must have a 2022 Membership Card in order to receive one. Also, you will need to present it before you can be served in the SQ. Please work with us, we have a large group of 2021 Members not renewed.

In closing, I wish all Post 29 Members and their Families a Happy and Prosperous 2022!  We will be working hard to keep all Members safe and healthy for the coming year! God Bless this Great Country and the Post 29 Family! It is my Honor to be your Commander!

From the SAL

As I write this newsletter we’re halfway through the Christmas Holliday Season.  I hope the holidays brought much happiness to you and your families, and of course to all of our American Legion families.

The SAL Kitchen Crew

For the month December the SAL Kitchen Crew hosted the American Legion Monthly Dinner Meeting for December where the monies were dispersed to our charities associated with the American Legion’s annual golf tournament.  We also held our monthly SAL Breakfast where Santa was present for our little friends.  We are pleased to see our attendance for the breakfast picking up.   We served 145 breakfasts, the most since Covid hit us.  Prior to Covid we were serving around 200.  We thank each and every one who supports the breakfast.  Next month, tell a friend or bring them along.

Our plans for January will be to prepare diner for the American Legion’s monthly meeting on January 6th where the charity monies from the 5K race will be dispersed.  Russell and Joe and the Kitchen crew are going to prepare a special meal for our Legionnaire members and guests.  If you are an American Legion member and have not been coming to the meetings, make a New Years’ resolution and come enjoy the meal and participate in your Legion.

The Crew will be hosting Uncle Pete’s breakfast on January 8th, and our Monthly SAL Breakfast again on January 15th.

We have begun talks for other events but have decided to table them to see if any Covid restrictions will be coming back.
