Our Chaplain, Jim Wood is out of town, so your editor makes the chaplain report. This week, Jim’s wonderful wife Susie received a double lung transplant at Duke University Hospital. Early reports are good, but please keep Jim and Susie in your thoughts and prayers.
And while you are thinking of people like Suzie, be sure to take a moment to think about yourself. Pray for your own health, so that you might live life to the fullest. Enjoy your time on earth, love your family, and embrace your friends and fellow veterans.
The City of Marietta parade for Veterans Day will be held Thursday November 11th. The post will participate. To ride on the float, contact the Commander of your respective unit (Legion, Auxiliary, SAL, ALR). Please arrive at the post by 0800 Thursday morning. THERE IS A CHANCE OF RAIN. THE CITY OF MARIETTA WILL MAKE A CALL ON THE PARADE SOMETIME WEDNESDAY.
Following the parade, the post will serve a free lunch to our members. (The meal will be served even if the parade is cancelled.) Plan to be in the main hall upstairs around 1PM to eat (parade riders eat first). The SAL is preparing a great meal for our veterans, and Social Quarters staff will be happy to serve you on this special day. Be sure to thank them.
Horace Orr Post 29 is working with United Military Care and Ameris Bank on a food drive for veterans – there is a box for collection of food products in the Social Quarters. Attached to the box is a suggestion of food items needed. Items that are needed for a big “Thanksgiving Breakfast” are cereal, oatmeal/grits, instant dry milk , pancake mix, syrup, peanut butter, jelly, coffee!
