on

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Atlanta and the Georgia Department of Veterans Service are partnering to say “Thank You” to Korean War Veterans for their honorable military service and personal sacrifice by hosting a special medal and certificate ceremony. This event will involve the presentation of the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador for Peace Medal and Georgia’s Korean War Veteran Certificate of Honor. Every Georgia veteran with honorable service during the Korean War (June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953) is eligible to receive this certificate and peace medal lapel pin (This includes veterans with service in-country and those who were stationed elsewhere in other capacities). It is also available for veterans who participated in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations through the end of 1955. The Ambassador for Peace Medal began to be presented to veterans as a special memento for those American veterans who returned to Republic of Korea through the “Revisit Program.” The honor was expanded to veterans who have been unable to participate. The State’s Certificate of Honor is personalized with the Korean War veteran’s name, rank, branch of service, and dates of service printed over the Seal of the State of Georgia and includes the official Korean War logo. These certificates are signed by Governor Brian Kemp and GDVS Commissioner Mike Roby.

Chattanooga Fallen Five Memorial 10.19.2019
On July 16, 2015, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez opened fire on two military installations in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He first committed a drive-by shooting at a recruiting center, then traveled to a U.S. Navy Reserve center and continued firing, where he was killed by police in a gunfight. Four Marines died on the spot. A Navy sailor, a Marine recruiter, and a police officer were wounded; the sailor died from his injuries two days later.
The Chattanooga Fallen Five Memorial is being dedicated on Oct. 19th at 5:00. Several members of The Marine Corps League are planning to attend.
The Marine Corps League has rented a van for League members. Legionnaires are also welcome to attend, but will need to coordinate their own transportation or rent an additional van. We need to know ASAP if you are would like to attend so we may make arrangements.
Please contact Jason Rusk for any questions/concerns – (678) 447-3173 or jasonrusk@hotmail.com. Please notify him ASAP if you wish to attend.
Here is a video about the memorial: https://newschannel9.com/news/local/long-awaited-fallen-five-memorial-begins-installation-thursday?fbclid=IwAR2CSus7C8kbz-nEx8nF1jTC0STZcOl9KwpuLYPZTwywL26p6fqj3KiF8cA

The Mayor of Chattanooga’s office cannot predict what kind of public turnout there will be, so we have been advised to arrive at a minimum an hour early. There are 200 chairs but most of them will be taken so you are encouraged to bring you own if needed. We will rent vans as needed (which will be paid from League funds). Centennial Video
From our recent Centennial celebration, comes the fine work of our photographer Steve Jennings.
In this clip, he captured the full remarks of our featured speaker, U.S. Representative, and veteran, Barry Loudermilk.
Cemetery Cleanup Video
Post 29 has adopted the Shiloh Cemetery. Shiloh Cemetery is located near the intersection of Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway. Shiloh is home to many veterans graves, many are quite old.
Our volunteer crew, founded by Past Commander Bill Beaudin and now organized by Jeff Garland, does a great job keeping the graves of our fallen comrades in honorable condition.
The next cleanup will be Saturday October 12th beginning at 8AM. The crew picks up trash, mows the grass, and pulls weeds. Please join us and bring a rake, shovel, mower, or other lawn tools. RSVP to Jeff Garland at Jeff.Garland @ amerisbank.com
Be sure to check out the great time these folks have doing good deeds.
