Cool Cars on 9/29

One of the retirement communities in our new VRC (Veteran Retirement Community) Outreach Program, Gaines Park on Old Highway 41, is holding a cool car event on September 29. The car needn’t be a “classic”, just a cool car.¬† If anybody has a car they’d like to show off, they can email Roy Lantz¬†, for more info.

VA Veterans Outreach Coming to Cobb

American Legion national staff and Department of Georgia Legionnaires are teaming up for a district revitalization and veterans outreach effort Oct. 4-6 in Powder Springs, Ga.

Veterans in and around the area are invited to attend the effort, which will take place at Powder Springs, Inc. Post 294, 3282 Florence Rd, Powder Springs, Ga.

The hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. all three days. A veterans service officer will be available all three days to assist with Department of Veterans Affairs-related issues and other veterans benefits questions.

Golf Tournament

The 22nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament was a huge success. We had a great turnout on the course at Dogwood and at the Post for our lunch and auction. Thanks to all who volunteered, sponsored, and played.

We will have final updates, and award proceeds to our charity partners in November.

Volunteers for Shepherd’s Men Clay Shoot

Thanks for your interest. We have numerous people interested in volunteering for this event. See below for more details.

The Clay Shoot is Friday October 5th. The location is Barnsely Gardens Resort in Adairsville, GA. It is about a 45 minute drive from Marietta. The program begins at 8AM and will last until lunchtime or a bit later. If you stay until the end (not required), you’ll likely be back in Marietta between 3PM and 4PM.

What we need: Volunteers to operate Clay Target stations. No experience is necessary, we can teach you what to do in about 10 minutes. The target stations are remote operated. Volunteers will simply push buttons and help the shooters keep score. We will provide all volunteers with hearing protection, eye protection, breakfast, snacks, and lunch. You may wish to bring a portable chair if you get uncomfortable standing for long periods. Volunteers should dress in casual clothes (jeans, shorts, comfortable shoes).

Once we get confirmations of those who plan to attend, we will help coordinate car pooling from Post 29.
